FAQs · what is laughter therapy?
The things people usually ask before booking, and a few they wish they’d asked. Anything missing, just ask.
It’s the applied side of gelotology, the scientific study of laughter. My sessions use humour, play and connection-based activities to create the conditions for genuine, spontaneous laughter, because the research shows the real thing does more for mind and body than forced exercises. No previous experience needed, and nobody has to perform.
No, and the difference matters. I respect laughter yoga’s tradition and community, but my approach works in broader terms than breathwork and simulated laughter exercises. I design environments and activities that feel familiar and unforced, because less self-consciousness means more genuine engagement, better connection, and real mirthful laughter, which research shows has the greater impact. The full comparison lives on the ILP page.
No. That’s practically the motto (it’s the title of my book). Sessions never single anyone out or demand performance. The laughter arrives on its own once the conditions are right, and shy participants routinely tell me they were surprised how natural it felt.
Workplaces, schools, healthcare teams, charities, community groups and individuals. I’ve worked with everyone from NHS trusts and Macmillan teams to hotels, law firms and suicide-bereavement retreats. If people are involved, laughter has a job to do.
Yes, with care and experience. I regularly work in bereavement, cancer support and mental health contexts. The approach never laughs at, never punches down, and never instructs anyone to feel anything. Where clinical needs exist, laughter-based work complements professional care; it doesn’t replace it.
Talks, coaching sessions and energiser webinars run 30 to 60 minutes. Workshops are typically 1 to 2 hours. Professional training runs half or full days. Everything is bespoke, so tell me what you need via the contact page and we’ll build it.
Yes. Webinars and coaching work well online, and I’ve designed the interactive elements specifically for screens. Workshops are best in person but hybrid formats are possible.
Every booking is tailored. The methodology stays the same; the content, tone, examples and activities are built around your people, your pressures and your occasion.
Use the contact form with a little detail about your setting and what you’re hoping for. I reply within one working day with plain advice and a quote. No obligation at any point.
It depends on format, length, group size and travel, so I quote per booking rather than publish a one-size rate. Charity and community rates are available; say so in your enquiry.
Cancellations more than 14 days before the event receive a full refund; within 7 to 14 days, a 50% refund; under 7 days, no refund, because late gaps are hard to fill. If I ever have to cancel, you get a full refund or a reschedule, your choice. Full details on the terms page.
A members’ collection for practitioners: research summaries you can quote with confidence, session plans you can run this week, and micro-practices that take two minutes. £20 a month or £199 a year with a 14-day free trial. Details on the ILP page.
Integrative Levity Praxis is my professional methodology, and the certification trains practitioners to deliver it: a formal, evidence-based credential built for corporate, NHS, education and community settings. The founding cohort is open for registration on the ILP page.
